Each week, we spotlight a hotel recommended by some of the industry's top travel writers. This week's pick is The Sagamore Pendry in Baltimore, Maryland.

At Baltimore's new showcase waterfront hotel, "the history is at once obvious and hidden," said Christine Dell'Amore at The Washington Post. Roll up on it from one of Fells Point's cobblestone streets and you can't miss the Doric columns and arched entranceway that speak of the pier building's past as a grand gateway for immigrants.

But you almost need a code to decipher all the other legacy nods: the cannon in the whiskey lounge, the blue crab linguini, the courtyard's equestrian statue. You can ponder it all at the pier's tip, beside the infinity pool.
