The ultimate wireless charger
This charger can wirelessly power your phone from over six feet away
Each week, we spotlight a cool innovation recommended by some of the industry's top tech writers. This week's pick is a true wireless charger.
The Forever Sleeve is the "Holy Grail" of charging devices, said Mark Spoonauer at Tom's Guide. Techies have been talking about "true wireless, over-the-air charging for three years without anything real to show for it." Now it's here. The phone case has a battery that gets its power from a transmitter set in the ceiling or a corner of your home. At a distance of two meters — about 6½ feet — the transmitter, which converts radio waves into electricity, can power your phone in about six or seven hours.
But if you keep it in the case "you should never really have to worry about recharging a phone" when you're at home. The developer of the technology, Bellevue, Wash.–based Ossia, showed it off in a bulky prototype at January's Consumer Electronics Show, but a sleeker model should be ready in 2020.
